Howard & Sons Ltd armchair. Sat on turned mahogany legs with stamped brass castors. This armchair has been within the same family for 3 generations and was originally owned by the vendor's grandfather Sir Eric Maclagan, director of the Victoria and Albert Museum from 1924-1945. The chair was left to the current vendor in his father’s will and was found in the garage of 20 Northmoor Road, Oxford, the same house where J.R.R. Tolkien wrote The Hobbit.
This chair has been reupholstered to a standard of the highest quality in traditional methods using horsehair and has been covered in Wemyss cotton velvet by Rupert Boulting Furniture of Eynsham, Oxfordshire.
